Joshua Morris walked, stumbled and then ran on a crooked path to becoming a photographer. He spent his youth with a camera in one hand and a guitar in the other, before forming a band and ditching the camera. Along the way he managed a record store, then a child care centre, and then a program for kids with special needs before realising the error of his ways, and decided to study photography at Sydney College of The Arts.
Since then he has photographed politicians, pop stars, and all manner of people in between. He regularly shoots for Marie Claire, The Good Weekend, Blacktown Arts, Fraser’s Property Group, and countless others.
He was recently named the winner of the 2018 Australian Life Photographic competition, was a semi finalist for the 2018 Head On Portrait competition, and was a finalist for the 2016 and 2015 National Photographic Portrait Prize.

Yesterday morning I photographed Christine Dungay for @primer_au Christine is sister to David Dungay, a 26-year-old Dunghutti man who was killed in custody in 2015, whilst uttering the words "I can’t breathe” 12 times. At the time, he was being restrained in Long Bay by 5 prison guards after he refused to stop eating a packet of biscuits. I can’t even fathom how that is a proportionate response. How a man with mental health issues can be treated so violently and disproportionately. But I’m a white male - blind to my own privilege and the comforts and ignorance that has afforded me. I kid myself that I’m so enlightened when really I’m not. I have so much to learn. Thank you Christine, and to all those who continue to fight for equality, and justice, and to help shake so many of us out of complacency, and into action, and education.
